SPARK TECH’S CEDAR MILL LEAGUE

IT’S BACK
During Hot Wired’s second year, they began hosting their own league meet, inspired by Washington’s system. We’re proud to say that we’ve pushed the initiative to bring it back. Using our developing managerial skills, we’ve brought back the Spark Tech League, hosted in Cedar Mill. We look forward to competing with our fellow teams, and we hope to have the League system cherish in the following years.
THE BASICS
WHEN
All of our League Meets take place from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM. The dates are:
- League Meet 0 – October 27th, 2018
- League Meet 1 – November 3rd, 2018
- League Meet 2 – November 17th, 2018
- League Meet 3 – December 8th, 2018
All of the League Meets take place on Saturdays.
WHERE
The address of the Cedar Mill League is Christ United Methodist Church, 12755 NW Dogwood St, Portland, OR 97229. The entrance to the building is towards the back.
FOOD
Although there are a variety of options nearby Christ UMC, we recommend that you eat prior to arriving at the League Meet.
Christ UMC is strictly Peanut Free and prefers that no food or drink, with the exception of water, will be on campus. In order to keep our venue for future events, we ask you to kindly respect Christ UMC’s wishes.
VOLUNTEERING
We encourage all League attendees and prospective FTC participants to contribute to some volunteering roles. Most of our team’s parents are volunteering, so it would be great if your team’s parents would be willing to lend a hand. And for those FLL kids out there, we might need your help with Field Resetting!
That being said, an important role we need help with is the Referee, someone who should not be affiliated with any team.

Required:
- FIRST Official Team Roster
- Consent and Release Form for all team members and mentors
- Robot and Field Inspection Checklists – make sure to fill out the team column!
Recommended:
- Safety Glasses
- Batteries / Charging
- Tool Kit
- Your Robot (just a suggestion ;D)
IMPORTANT – READ UP!
CHARGING
Due to the limited number of electrical ports, we will have two charging stations set up, where you can charge your batteries and your phones through power strips.
You might want to bring portable chargers for your personal devices – that’s what we’re doing 🙂
INSPECTION
The rules for inspection this year are quite different. Some of the changes include searching for pinch points and a new 42 lb weight limit on your robot, which will be weighed using a bathroom scale. Make sure to fill our both the Robot and Field Inspection sheets before each meet.
SCHEDULING
Each team is expected to have 5 matches at every meet, and depending on certain conditions, that number may reduce. Furthermore, we’re opening our league to non-league competitors to join the league – if you want to try it out, please contact us! We would love to see more teams in the Oregon League system.
